Ritchie Timmermans

Ritchie Timmermans (1992) obtained his bachelor and master degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Radboud University (RU) Nijmegen. During his bachelor internship at the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Radboudumc, he focused on developing 3D renal proximal tubule structures that would allow drug-induced nephrotoxicity screening. His 1^st master internship at the department of Physiology of the Radboudumc, he worked on elucidating the functionality and expression of the succinate receptor 1 (SUCNR1/GPR91) in renal proximal tubule cells. During his 2^nd master internship at the Centre for Drug Research of the University of Helsinki, he used in vitro transport activity and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to predict in vivo effects of rare ABCG2/BCRP variants on rosuvastatin pharmacokinetics.

In May 2018, he started his PhD at the department of Molecular Epidemiology (LUMC) in close collaboration with the department of Experimental Rheumatology (RIMLS, Radboudumc). This project is funded by the Reumafonds, and will focus on the investigation of epigenetic control of WISP1 expression in cartilage homeostasis and how disruption in control may contribute to development of osteoarthritis.
